Bikelab Inc had its genesis back in 1983 when Brian Cooke (Bubba) began his studies in the field of exercise science. This was more about exploring the possibility of continuing a high school passion for sport than it was for the love of science. Like all journeys, this one evolved with the passage of time and a realisation that a love of (exercise) science served to further that passion for sports.
Brian quickly learned that no two athletes respond in precisely the same way to the same training. Genetics, physiology, chemistry, psychology, nutrition and rest all play a role in determining training response. The only way to accurately predict a likely training response is to test (assess) an athlete prior to any exercise prescription. Countless years of successful coaching outcomes (and the occasional failure) have only served to reinforce his philosophy.
These days the word "sports" has been replaced with cycling but the entrenched philosophy remains. The application of science is what sporting performance is all about, because at the end of the day, riding faster is the "lived experience" of physiological adaptation. With the effective application of science, ALL riders can get stronger, fitter, faster.
At its core, the science of sports performance is all about understanding the athlete & predicting training responses, which can only be achieved through controlled testing and analysis.
Test / Train / Measure / Re-test.
The quality of the test determines the quality of the training and in this sense, testing trumps a generalistic "data dump" every single time.
All based on the evidence of science
All that we do is premised on science and the knowledge of how each cyclist adapts to training. The result is that you get perfectly matched training solutions every time, no matter what your level or goals are. We always test and never guess, so you can be sure that every km you ride is moving you purposefully towards your ultimate cycling dream.
